about
This song is part of a collection called THE RENEWAL PROJECT, a series of songs about hope, and of coming through dark times with the belief in the possibility of better days ahead.
I'll be releasing these songs one at a time over the coming months as I finish them. Here is the first one, "Broken We Heal." "Follow" me on Bandcamp to get updates when the new songs drop.
These are songs I've written that I am arranging, performing, and producing by myself at home during the pandemic. Please forgive my limitations at any of the above tasks.
Music helps me keep in touch with my heart, and writing and singing these songs has helped keep me strong, loving, and moving forward through difficult times. I hope they might do the same for you.
The first line of the chorus, "Can I kiss the hand that scarred me?" is from a poem by the 8th century Muslim saint and Sufi mystic, Rabia, as translated by Daniel Ladinsky in the book "Love Poems from God."
I hope you enjoy. Stay strong. Work hard. Sing, dance, love. Live.

lyrics
Broken we heal
Broken we rise
Open to feel the light
In our lives
Broken we heal
Broken we rise
Shattered we lose
All those meaningless words
Standing anew
In the place where we were
Broken we heal
Broken we rise
Can I kiss the hand that scarred me?
Make a list of all who harmed me
And hold it to my heart?
Oh, break me apart...
I want to break down these doors
I want to tear down these walls
Let this song be the roar
They make as they fall
Broken we heal
Broken we rise
Can I kiss the hand that scarred me?
Make a list of all who harmed me
And hold it to my heart?
Well if that's what it takes
Let everyday break me apart
If that's what it takes
May every day break me apart
