about
As most of you know, I’m not a particularly religious person, but there are some aspects of the Jesus story that I find pretty appealing. Things like being born in a manger surrounded by cows and sheep! Not very hygienic, but makes a great tableau! Things like Jesus only really losing his temper at mean-spirited religious hypocrites. Things like the Apostles all being such screw-ups -selfish, petty, fearful, cowardly. I take great comfort in that aspect of the story.
So, I wrote and recorded the song, feel it’s nice and hopeful (something we need right now), true to the spirit of the story, but not heavy. I hope you enjoy it!
lyrics
Before that child was born this day
I know it seemed I was a million miles away
They said I glared from on high
Casting judgement on man
Like some angry old guy
But that’s not who I am
So be of good cheer
‘Cause here’s the new rule
God is a child who smiles and drools
Swaddled and soft, cuddled and curled
I hope that brings hope to your world
Before that child was born this day
Sure I knew how to laugh
Sure I knew how to play
But I’m busy all the time
Don’t practice too much
And it feels pretty good
To get back in touch
To breathe real deep
And be a kid for a while
To eat and sleep and cry and smile
And one day die like all humans will
Now even God walks that road in this world.
So you’re not alone.
Trust me.
There’s hope in the world on the darkest of nights
So stay true and strong, don’t give up the good fight
‘Cause God is a child who smiles and drools
I hope that brings hope to your world.
You know, next time I’m gonna come back a girl.
Wow. That’ll really mess with some people’s preconceived notions, won’t it?
I mean how’d they’d ever get it in their heads anyway that I was a guy?
That’s just plain stupid.
I’m obviously non-binary, binary, and everything. Everything!
How can they have such a limited view of the Divine Creator of all of Existence, right?
I thought I built their brains better than that.
I gotta go back and check the specs.
Probably some room for improvement there.
I’ll keep tinkering. Get back to work.
Stay in touch!
